Journal of biophotonics 2012 JulWe use an advanced fluorescence method of Nonlinear Laser Fluorimetry in combination with Fluorescence Induction and Relaxation technique to study the influence of excess-light conditions on the physiological state of the green alga Chlorella pyrenoidosa. We demonstrate that zeaxanthin-dependent non-photochemical quenching leads to a significant increase in the rate constant of singlet-singlet annihilation of chlorophyll a excited state, which suggests profound conformational changes in the light-harvesting complexes of photosystem II.
