Current opinion in chemical biology 2019 FebMammalian cells are organized into different compartments that separate and facilitate physiological processes by providing specialized local environments and allowing different, otherwise incompatible biological processes to be carried out simultaneously. Proteins are targeted to these subcellular locations where they fulfill specialized, compartment-specific functions. Spatial proteomics aims to localize and quantify proteins within subcellular structures. Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
