QuickView for Phencyclidine (compound)

PubChem
Name: Phencyclidine
PubChem Compound ID: 13727
Description: A hallucinogen formerly used as a veterinary anesthetic, and briefly as a general anesthetic for humans. Phencyclidine is similar to KETAMINE in structure and in many of its effects. Like ketamine, it can produce a dissociative state. It exerts its pharmacological action through inhibition of NMDA receptors (RECEPTORS, N-METHYL-D-ASPARTATE). As a drug of abuse, it is known as PCP and Angel Dust.
Molecular formula: C17H26ClN
Molecular weight: 279.848 g/mol
Synonyms:
1-(1-Phenylcyclohexyl)piperidine hydrochloride; Phencyclidine hydrochloride [USAN]; PCP hydrochloride; Sernyl; GP-121; PHENYLCYCLINE HYDROCHLORIDE; Sernylan; 956-90-1; C.I. 395; NSC-40902.

Category: Hallucinogens, Enzyme Inhibitors, Excitatory Amino Acid Antagonists
CAS number: 77-10-1
Pharmacology
Pharmacology: Phencyclidine works primarily as an NMDA receptor antagonist, which blocks the activity of the NMDA Receptor.
Mechanism of Action:
The N-methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor, a type of ionotropic receptor, is found on the dendrites of neurons and receives signals in the form of neurotransmitters. It is a major excitatory receptor in the brain. Normal physiological function requires that the activated receptor fluxes positive ions through the channel part of the receptor. PCP ent...

Interactions
Drug interaction:
VoriconazoleVoriconazole, a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor, may increase the serum concentration of phencyclidine by decreasing its metabolism. Monitor for changes in the therapeutic and adverse effects of phencyclidine if voriconazole is initiated, discontinued or dose changed.
TelithromycinTelithromycin may reduce clearance of Phencyclidine. Consider alternate therapy or monitor for changes in the therapeutic/adverse effects of Phencyclidine if Telithromycin is initiated, discontinued or dose changed.
