Cognitive disorders in Parkinson's disease (PD) lead to occupational, social, everyday and psychological maladaptation in patients and their relatives. The paper addresses the epidemiology, structure and character of cognitive disorders in PD. The main pathogenetic factors of the development of moderate cognitive disorders and dementia in PD, methods of diagnosis and assessment of cognitive disorders and approaches to treatment of memory and intellect impairment are considered. We present the results of our own study on the effect of amantadine sulfate, prescribed in the dosage of 300 mg during 6 months, on cognitive disorders in 25 PD patients. Results of the therapy were assessed using neuropsychological tests and scales (MMSE, the Frontal Assessment battery, the Mattis dementia rating scale). The significant improvement in neuropsychological performance was seen in patients with moderate cognitive disorders treated with amantadine sulfate during 6 months.
