This article is devoted to the new method for the determination of basal metabolism using 13C-bicarbonate breath test compared to the method of Harris-Benedict in healthy and patients with impaired thyroid function. The problems of diagnostic information content, features and advantages of the clinical application of 13C-bicarbonate breath test compared to the method of Harris-Benedict.
