Stimulants to enhance academic achievement.

In a survey from a large urban community, a significant number of students in elite middle schools and high schools report using stimulants as grade enhancers. Falsifying symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder at the time of a doctor visit is a frequently used method to obtain a prescription for a stimulant. There is a role for pediatricians to prevent this abuse of medication.
