Toxoplasma gondii virulence is dependent on factors involved in either parasite-host cell interaction, or in host immune response. It is essentially defined in the mouse and little is known concerning human infection. The genetic dependence of virulence is a growing field, benefiting from the recent development of research of the population structure of T. gondii. Copyright © 2012 Institut Pasteur.
