Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.) 2013Multiplex, real-time PCR has become an invaluable tool for the rapid identification of pathogens in clinical specimens enabling earlier and more targeted management of antimicrobial therapy. In this chapter, we describe the methodology behind a novel multiplex-tandem PCR (MT-PCR) platform designed for the rapid identification of up to 18 fungal pathogens in blood cultures, primary isolation plates, and whole blood, serum, and plasma.
