The American journal of gastroenterology 2013 MarSerious, life-threatening conditions may result from too much gastric acid secretion by parietal cells, too little secretion of gastric acid and intrinsic factor by parietal cells, or loss of secreted gastric hydrochloric acid from the body. Understanding the physiology and pathophysiology of gastric secretion and its regulation can improve patient care and clinical outcomes. Gastric secretion remains highly relevant to practicing clinicians.
