Peer reviewed literature. Although there is not an established, standardized protocol for the assessment of these patients, multiple diagnostic and assessment tools are available and in use. In a clinical setting for comprehensive lymphedema care, development of assessment protocols that are reproducible and utilized over the course of care is necessary. Risk-reduction strategies for lymphedema are an emerging focus in oncology care. Established methods for diagnosis and assessment are available and should be incorporated into practice.
