Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant neoplasm with high rate of lymph node metastasis and recurrence. The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression profile of T Lymphoma Invasion and Metastasis 1 (TIAM1) in OSCC and its correlation with clinical outcomes including lymph node metastasis and recurrence. Detection of TIAM1 expression in tumor samples from 56 OSCC patients and oral mucosa samples from 20 healthy people was performed by immunohistochemistry. Then immunostaining score of each patient was calculated. The results revealed that TIAM1 was aberrantly expressed in the OSCC group compared with the normal group. Furthermore, high expression of TIAM1 was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and the timing of recurrence. Assessment of TIAM1 expression might represent a valid tool in clinical practice for prediction of metastasis, recurrence, and prognosis of OSCC. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
