Maternal, cord blood and childhood adipokines have been associated with childhood obesity. We investigated whether postpartum maternal adipokines are associated with increased weight at 1 year of age in children of women with gestational diabetes (GDM). Plasma leptin and adiponectin concentrations were measured in 160 women at approximately 12 weeks following pregnancy with GDM and compared to infant weight for length z-score at 1 year of age after adjustment for maternal and infant demographic variables. No association was demonstrated between maternal postpartum leptin and adiponectin concentrations and infant weight for length z-score at 1 year of age.
