Somatic scribble mutant cells are selectively eliminated from the growing Drosophila tissue through cell competition, a tumor-suppressing mechanism that ensures tissue integrity. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Sanaki et al. demonstrate that organismal hyperinsulinemia promotes tumorigenesis by abrogating local cell competition. Copyright © 2020.
