Gene expression is regulated by transcription factors (TFs) and chromatin modifiers such as histone acetyltransferases (HATs). Pessoa Rodrigues et al. revealed the role of the Males absent on the first (MOF) HAT in hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) differentiation into red blood cells. This work raises interesting questions about how MOF controls other hematopoietic differentiation processes. Copyright © 2020. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
