    A man in his late 60s developed shock after ingesting 7500 mg of metoprolol tartrate that was refractory to all medical treatment including hyperinsulinaemic euglycaemia, intravenous lipid emulsion and dialysis, eventually needing rescue extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
