Incidental thyroid nodules (ITNs) are commonly detected on imaging examinations performed for other reasons, particularly computed tomography (CT) (and now PET-CT and even PET-MR imaging), MR imaging, and sonography, primarily a consequence of the increasing sensitivity of these diagnostic modalities.
