Hip fractures are a common, serious, and sometimes life-threatening injury that affects primarily older women. Multiple factors, such as age, sex, bone health, mobility, and balance, affect the risk of incurring a hip fracture. Hip fractures are classified by their location and described by their displacement and comminution. The type of fracture and classification help to determine orthopedic strategies used to fixate the hip. Radiographers image patients with hip fractures during repair surgery and during their recovery. © 2022 American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
