According to WHO, PTSD is one of the diagnoses causing the highest number of "days out of role"/year. Current recommendations for evidence-based treatment of PTSD are largely the same across international guidelines. Common to these is that psychotherapeutic treatment is first-choice and psychopharmacological treatment is second choice. First-choice psychotherapeutic treatment is trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, while SSRIs are first-choice psychopharmacological treatment. However, there is still a need for further research into treatments as well as optimising access to existing treatment options.
