In this study, the microstructure and fracture toughness of ZKX500 magnesium alloy under different processing were investigated. The results show that the as-extruded (FH) consists of coarsen and fine grains with higher residual stress. The fracture toughness and crack propagation are significantly distinct along different directions. By contrast, the rolled specimen (FRH) shows an equiaxed grain structure and precipitation dispersion in the matrix. After hot-rolling and heat treatment, less texture effect affected on the fracture toughness and rupture energy absorption. These renders the higher attractive on the rolled ZKX500 magnesium alloy in the applications of orthopedic bone plates. Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
