Patients with gliomas often experience mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, that lead to worsening tumor progression and shortened survival. In this issue, Wang and colleagues report a novel mechanism underlying this, finding that chronic stress reduces secretion of the chemokine CCL3, which leads to an immunosuppressive glioma microenvironment. CCL3 administration enhances the infiltration of antitumor immune cells, providing rationale for a potential new therapeutic approach.
