Peroxiredoxins are a family of ubiquitous proteins found in all kingdoms of life. They are important for antioxidant defence and, in eukaryotes, participate in redox signalling. This family includes alkyl hydroperoxide reductase subunit C (AphC) from bacteria, and peroxiredoxins 1 (PRDX1), 2 (PRDX2), 4 (PRDX4) and 6 (PRDX6).
